Project Overview

As Solution Architect for the Cardata Backbone team I provided technical leadership setting up a new platform to obtain data from vehicles remotely for roadside assistance requests. By automating and improving the enrolment process for customers we increased the conversion ratio of vehicles that could be successfully connected.

Connecting new vehicles was at an early stage. Customers got a form presented that asked them everything about details we already knew or that most people had no idea about.

You ever heard of a VIN? Or do you know the build year of your car off the top of your head? 🤔🤓 Even if the answer is yes, imagine standing roadside with a breakdown and stress and getting these kinds of questions. 🤯

We improved the intake process by automatically using data from the customer’s membership, the intake of the breakdown and vehicle registration databases.

As a result we only still have to ask customers for consent via the system of the manufacturer of their vehicle. Everything else was fully automatically processed via serverless workflow solutions of AWS, Step Functions.

This vehicle data is used to provide better roadside assistance to the members of the ANWB. Think of things that can possibly be solved remotely via the phone. Or when it’s seen that a part is broken the roadside mechanic can take this part before they drive to the incident. Or in the worst case it can be determined that this problem cannot be solved at the roadside. Then a tow truck can be sent immediately without the customer first having to wait in vain for a roadside mechanic.
